Betty White died just a few weeks short of her 100th birthday on Dec. 31, 2021, at her Brentwood home. We’re all sad to see White’s torn down but it was just one of The Golden Girls star’s homes. Her favorite place to call home was a rustic-modern Carmel-by-the-Sea beach house, which she built with her husband, Allen Ludden, in 1978. It was listed for sale in early April, and according to toptenrealestate.com, the asking price was $7.95 million. Architectural Digest reports that the house sold two weeks later for $10.775 million—nearly $3 million above asking price. With wall-to-wall windows, the rooms look out at the Point Lobos Nature Reserve, Ribera Beach and Monastery Beach. The 3,621-square foot beach house includes four bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths. The master suite also has a fireplace while the ensuite bath has a vanity that was designed by Betty. In keeping with its location at the nature reserve, the three-story home was constructed utilizing earthy building materials such as the stone fireplace and light wood walls and ceilings. In addition, the versatile dining room can be used informally while open to the kitchen or closed off with the only view being the deck and ocean. This home is where Betty displayed her eight Emmys, SAG Awards and other show business mementos earned over her 80-plus-year career.
