The Today show weather anchor, 68, shared a parting message to the social media platform on Wednesday, Dec. 21, telling his followers that he’s taking a break from the site for the time being. “Thank you Twitter. We had some great times but it’s time to take a break,” he wrote in his message, where he also provided alternate ways for his fans to connect with him, including Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook. While Roker didn’t clarify his reason for needing a break, the decision comes in the wake of Elon Musk’s controversial takeover of the social networking site, which has prompted a slew of other celebrities to ditch their accounts as well. On top of all the Musk drama, Roker has also been dealing with recent health complications, as he’s been absent from his normal spot on the Today show for over a month. As Parade previously reported, the TV personality was recently hospitalized for blood clots found in his lungs and leg. The health scare caused him to miss the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade—his first time not hosting the event in 27 years—as well as the annual lighting of the Rockefeller Christmas tree. After going in and out of the hospital, Roker finally arrived home on Dec. 8, where he has been recovering and getting ready for the holidays with his family, including wife Deborah Roberts and two children, Leila, 24, and Nick, 20. Earlier this week, he shared a photo of their giant Christmas tree, telling his Instagram followers that he is “so thankful to be well enough” to decorate the tree and ring in the holidays with his family this year.
